Accreditation

We are pleased to report that LBC has been granted Candidate Status by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE). ABHE is the national accrediting association that accredits over 100 Bible colleges and Christian universities, including most Christian Church institutions.

This is a major milestone! We have been working toward this significant goal since the Board of Regents began the process of Applicant Status in 2004. Applicant institutions have up to five years to achieve Candidacy. We received it in four. We want to thank all our friends and partners for your prayers and your support. This never would have happened without your help and God's blessing! The official statement reads:

"Louisville Bible College holds Candidate status at the undergraduate and graduate levels with the Commission on Accreditation of the Association for Biblical Higher Education, 5575 S. Semoran Blvd. Suite 26, Orlando, Florida, 32822 Ph. (407)207-0808. Candidate status provides membership in the Association, and is a pre-accredited status granted to those institutions that meet the ABHE COA Conditions of Eligibility and possess such qualities as may provide a basis for achieving accredited status within four years."

There are several things that Candidacy means and doesn't mean. Candidacy does not mean that we are accredited-yet. It doesn't open as many doors as "full accreditation" will open. But it does bring a lot of advantages for the College, our students, and our mission. Those advantages include the following:

  1. The Commission has evidence that the College can realistically meet the Standards for Initial Accreditation within four years.
  2. The College is now a member of an accrediting association that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  3. The College is now eligible to apply for authorization for Federal Student Aid for its students, including grants and loans.
  4. Military-related benefits may more easily be granted to LBC students.
  5. Students may more easily transfer credits to other educational institutions.
  6. Graduates of LBC may more easily be accepted into various graduate programs.
  7. Some employers may now choose to grant tuition reimbursement for their employees to study at Louisville Bible College.
  8. Some corporations may now make matching gifts to LBC when their employees donate.
  9. Foundations may be more likely to approve grants to LBC.
  10. The College may find it easier to recruit students and secure faculty.
  11. LBC will be listed in the books and other sources on accreditation as a member (with Candidate status) of a nationally recognized accrediting association.
May God continue to bless LBC as we continue to fulfill our vitally important and unchanging mission of educating preachers and other Christian workers for Christ's church and for world evangelism!
